Kindergarten

Dance Classes for Ages 6-10 in Canberra

Junior
6-8 years

For dancers looking to explore more styles of dance in a fun, creative, and supportive environment. Each class builds strong dance foundations in technique and self-expression, while encouraging teamwork and helping your child’s confidence grow.

Ballet

Combines elegant and precise movements with storytelling and classical music. It emphasizes technique, poise, and artistry.

Tap

A rhythmic and percussive dance style in which dancers create intricate sounds by striking the floor with metal-tipped shoes, often accompanied by lively music.

Theatrical

Jazz is a fun, energetic dance style that appeals to children who enjoy upbeat music, expressive movement, and learning exciting routines. In our Theatrical classes, Jazz is taught alongside Musical Theatre, making this class especially suited to children who love performance, imagination, and working as part of a group.

Acro

Acro dance combines dance with acrobatic skills, focusing on strength, flexibility, balance, and control.

Performance Group

Our Performance Groups give dancers the chance to shine at community events andselected competitions while developing teamwork, confidence, and stage experience. It’s a wonderful way forpassionate dancers to grow, make friends, and be part of something special!

As per our ethos, our performance groups are not about winning and instead focus on teamwork and providing additional opportunities for our dancers to perform.

Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate 9 to 13 years

For dancers who are ready to take it further, these classes blend challenge with creativity, adding greater depth in technique, musicality, and choreography. Students are encouraged to refine their skills, build confidence, and develop performance quality, all while keeping classes engaging, energetic, and fun.

A Little Prep Can Go a
Long Way

We know the first class can be a big step, so we’ve created a checklist to help you and your child feel prepared, calm, and confident from the start.

 

  • Dress them in the required attire, with long hair tied back
  • Show them photos and videos from our Facebook and Instagram pages and website
  • Ensure your child has eaten before class and has had a drink of water
  • Ensure your child has been to the bathroom before class
  • Store all your dance equipment in the one bag
  • Let your child know that Gumnut Dance can’t wait to meet them!
